As is well known, the Moroccan bribery scandal in the European Parliament has come to light in recent months, revealing shocking facts that have tarnished the reputation and history of the European legislative institution. It has become clear that the real reason for the complicity of European institutions, especially the European Parliament and the European Commission, is to conclude several agreements with the Moroccan occupation to drain the wealth of the Sahrawi people and remain silent about the reality of human rights violations in the occupied cities of Western Sahara.
Freedomsun Defenders have launched a campaign for Western Sahara aimed at raising awareness about the political repercussions of buying loyalties by the Moroccan occupation, which has resulted in the prolonged suffering of the Sahrawi people and to shed light on the international community’s tendency to show favoritism towards Morocco and remain silent about the human rights abuses and crimes committed by the Moroccan authorities in the occupied territories.
The campaign is centered around the “Maroc Gate” scandal and aims to highlight the complicity of European institutions, to call for the protection of the Sahrawi people, and to hold the Moroccan occupying power accountable for its repeated crimes against them, including persecution, abuse, repression, trials and arrests.
A number of activists, organizations, and students from the occupied territories and abroad are participating in the campaign.
Freedomsun Defenders stress the need for the international community to take action and fill the dangerous political vacuum, and for the United Nations to fulfill its obligations, especially since Morocco has systematically undermined the self-determination of the Sahrawi people by buying the silence and complicity of the international community. International law is indivisible, and double standards cannot be tolerated.
